Glen Arbor Artisans: A Reflection of Artistry, Craftsmanship, and Nature
Nestled in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes area, Glen Arbor Artisans was founded by Paul May and Kristin Hurlin in 2014 to celebrate their incredible surroundings. From furniture and home goods to original artwork, prints, and cards, Glen Arbor Artisans invites visitors to bring a piece of its artistry into their own homes.
Paul and Kristin’s journey began when they moved to the area in 1983, choosing to raise their family in a place so uniquely inspiring that it became a home to their craft. They purchased an old farmstead in downtown Glen Arbor, where they established a wood shop, art studio, and seasonal gallery.
The website for Glen Arbor Artisans is not simply a place to view and purchase products, it is an extension of the artistry and craftsmanship that the May family has poured into their creations. As such, the design philosophy is rooted in letting the products take center stage, much as they do in the physical store itself. Just as visitors to the gallery are encouraged to take in the details of each piece, the website offers an immersive experience where the art speaks for itself.
This approach reflects a deeper understanding of how artistry can be presented in the digital realm. By using a minimalist design with carefully selected fonts and headers that align with their brand identity, the site allows the art to shine without distraction.
In many ways, the website mirrors the gallery experience. When you walk into a gallery, the artwork is placed in a way that allows you to focus on it completely. The same is true for the website. The layout is simple yet elegant, offering a clean, organized structure that highlights the work rather than overwhelming the viewer with unnecessary design elements. This gives the website a sense of calm, much like the tranquil landscape of the Sleeping Bear Dunes itself.
