A New Season for Red Fennel Kitchen
The new website for Red Fennel Kitchen feels as considered as the meals it represents. Built for a Boston-based personal chef with a passion for balance and nourishment, this project centered around creating a digital space that reflects balance, warmth, nourishment, and intention.
The tone of the site was defined by the logo: a feminine, handwritten script that feels approachable and graceful. That aesthetic guided every design decision, resulting in a layout and color story that feels intentional, inviting, and refreshingly uncluttered.
A Balance of Cool and Warm
The color story leans into the logo’s calm blue and pairs it with a soft cream background that adds a touch of warmth and femininity without ever tipping into overly delicate territory.
Blue sections ground the site in trust and calm—a nod to the brand’s professionalism and reliability.
Cream backgrounds soften the overall look, keeping the experience light while creating a subtle sense of hospitality.
A delicate red accent brings a hint of energy without disrupting the gentle flow. It also serves as a visual tie-in to the brand’s name, offering a tasteful pop without overwhelming the palette.
The result is a balanced and elegant foundation—visually cohesive, and reflective of the same thoughtfulness that goes into the food.
Soft, Appetizing Photography
The site’s imagery plays a quiet but powerful role in evoking appetite and emotion. Rather than using overly styled or saturated food photography, the design features natural, beautiful photos softened with a white or cream wash to preserve the airy, modern tone.
All images are inset within the layout rather than full-bleed, reinforcing the structured, calm visual rhythm of the site. Each photo is framed with one or two curved corners, a subtle but modern design choice that adds character and softness. The asymmetry of the image shapes adds just enough visual intrigue without distracting from the overall harmony.

“Sara was a great help in revamping my business site into something cleaner, neater, and easier on the eyes. She answered all of my questions thoroughly and made sure to get my opinion on her designs before finalizing anything. I especially enjoyed the 75-minute training call included in her service fee where she took me through all of the work she did on the site and taught me how to edit anything I may want to change in the future. It made me feel much better about working on Squarespace alone in the future!”
